the motivation

The Connections Directory is a free resource that offers access to a larger network of potential friends in the greater LA area. Neurodivergent friendships come with a culture, style, and set of expectations that differ from those of neurotypical friendships. This can create challenges when seeking meaningful connections within the social contexts you or your child may be exposed to within regular routines. The questions in the directory survey are thoughtfully designed in an effort to connect like-minded individuals and hopefully be the impetus for developing true friendships.

the approach

Neurodivergent individuals often face challenges in finding peers who think, communicate, or play in similar ways. When curating connections, the following factors will be considered:

  • special interests

  • geographical location

  • preferred method of connection (in-person, virtual, pen pal, etc.)

  • communication style

  • use of language

Traits such as special interests and unique communication styles—while meaningful and enriching—can sometimes be misunderstood by neurotypical counterparts, making genuine connections harder to build. This directory aims to bridge that gap by connecting individuals in a safe and supportive way. The goal is to foster friendships that honor each person’s authenticity. Once you're informed of your potential connections, you're free to connect and meet on your own terms—only if and when it feels right for you.
